Financial Diet

Finally got my bill from my therapist's office - I'm adding $173.04 to my total. The new total is $18,223.51.

I also added $.82 to my savings with Stash Your Cash. I had to go to the grocery store last night because we needed milk, pumpkin and Pringles were on sale and Mom needs more empty Pringles cans.

Sold a Longaberger piece today and sent $20.35 to savings. New savings total is $22.15.

I don't let the rises in my total debt to get me down. I know this amount is going to go up and go down. My goal is to have it go down each month. But on a daily basis, if it goes up because of interest owing on a credit card, or my therapist bills adding to my debt, so be it. I can't get discouraged, no matter what. I mean, look at it this way - my total is still less than when I started. And that's encouraging.

Even with my recent draining of my savings - I know that number is going to go up. I am constantly learning how to be better with my money. How to improve my bill tracking spreadsheet. As long as I learn and I get better, my future looks good. I mean, I just sold a piece today and all of a sudden, I have money again.

The biggest hurdle for me is spending, like with most people. I admit I do retail therapy and that needs to stop. Especially when I am trying to save money and pay down debt. I have things that I want to save for (new couch, smart light bulbs, new shelves for the craft room) and for me, right now, keeping focus on those is the biggest key to curb my spending. That and accountability.

That's one of the reasons for starting this blog/online journal. This is me accounting for all my spending and saving. If I buy it, I'm going to have to write it down somewhere. It's the same with a dieter having a food journal. If they are serious about losing weight and eating healthier, they have to account for every bit of food they are eating, which is a deterrent for some people to snack between meals. So this is my financial diet, per se.

On a fun note, I mentioned earlier how I had to go get Pringles because my mom needs empty Pringles cans. My mom and I and my son made Christmas cookies yesterday. Wait - Christmas is over! And believe me, I have enough Christmas cookies to snack on. We were making them for a couple soldiers who are deployed. One we know and one is the husband of a gal my mom works with. So we made chocolate chip cookies, ginger snaps, snickerdoodles and white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. And, we ship them in Pringles cans so they don't get crushed during transit. Genius, right? We also sent them some tuna fish pouches, cheese and crackers and fruit snacks, then filled every empty space with bulk candy - tootsie rolls and atomic fireballs. Trust me - they make great packing peanuts and the soldiers don't complain. Our way of telling the soldiers deployed that someone is thinking about them outside of their family and that we are thankful for their service.

Well, I'm off to start listing things again. Have a great week!
